Patriot Guard and associates,

Note: For those who may not know what HOTH is in the subject line, it stands for Help on the Home Front, and it is how we classify some events that support Veterans and 1st Responders that are not Honor missions.

We are very proud to have been asked to participate in an Honor and Remember flag presentation for CPO Brian Bill, US Navy

On May 12 at the Spartyka Wounded Warrior 5K – CT Trail Run, the Connecticut Chapter of Honor and Remember will present a personalized Honor and Remember Flag to the family of Brian Bill. Bill was killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter in which he was riding was shot down on August 6, 2011. The crash in Wardak  province, Afghanistan killed 31 United States service members, including a Navy SEAL dog.

Brian graduated from Naval Aviation Technical Training Command in Pensacola, Fla., in November 2001 and Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training in Coronado, Calif., in November 2002. He joined his East Coast-based SEAL team in June 2003. Bill’s decorations include four Bronze Stars with combat ‘V’ device for valor, including one for extreme heroism; Joint Service Commendation Medal with combat ‘V’ device for valor; Purple Heart Medal; Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal; Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal; two Combat Action Ribbons; two Presidential Unit Citations; Navy Unit Citation; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Expert Medal and Pistol Expert Medal.

Of note, there will be multiple military units present, family members of Brian’s as well as significant media coverage.

We will stand a flag line at the beginning of this race when the flag will be presented to this hero’s family in front of all the runners and guests.

Sr. RC Kevin Wakely will be RCIC and flags will be on site courtesy of Flag Captain Don Camden.
