Sadly, we are called to stand for Lt. Col. Charles “The Colonel” Alex, Sr. US Army, WWII, Korea, Vietnam. He was 105 years old.
Charlie joined the National Guard in 1939. The following year, his 30 year military career in the U.S. Army’s Infantry was set in motion. He served in WW II, Korea & Vietnam, which included tours in New Zealand, the South Pacific, Europe and various U.S. bases, with his final tour in Manhattan, as an Inspector General. Along the way, Charlie garnered a plethora of medals and awards prior to his retirement on October 31, 1971, with a tribute celebration that took place in his hometown, on the 8th of January 1972.
He was awarded: The Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army Occupation medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medaland The Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
We will stand a Flag Line at the Rocky Hill Veterans Center, an escort to the cemetery and a Flag Line at the cemetery.
