US Navy Veteran Ann Marie Brodeur, 77, Charlton, MA 12 MAR ’13

The family of US Navy Veteran Ann Marie Brodeur, including her
daughter and fellow Connecticut PGR member Laurie Gadbois, has requested
our presence at the funeral of their beloved Ann Marie.

Ann Marie was a graduate of the Bainbridge Naval Academy in
Maryland and served in the US Navy in Washington, D.C. at the Pentagon
in the mid-1950’s. In addition to her duty at the Pentagon, she was
stationed at the Naval Training Station in Brainbridge, MD as well as
at the Receiving Station in Washington DC.

From the State Captain – March 2013

Patriot Guard and Associates:

Despite the snow expected in the next day or two, it is time to be thinking Spring and warmer weather! And don’t forget to set your clocks ahead to be on time for the Special Mission Sunday as well..

Quite a bit coming our way over the next few months so I wanted to get some “save the dates” out to you as well as once again begin to look for volunteers to help at a two very important events.

Saturday May 4th will be the New England Chili Cook off in Somers CT to benefit Patriot Guard Riders of CT and the Somers Fire Dept. This is a terrific event with fun, vendors and of course, CHILI! We will be looking for volunteers to help us out the day before and the days of the event so please block some time now to help out. Our own Ride Captain MadMike Freeman will once again at the helm of this outstanding event and Sr. Ride Captain Kevin Wakely will also again be coordinating all the volunteers’ roles and shifts for PGR members. Sunday June 23rd will be our Respect our Vets Poker Run,Prospect CT V.F.W. POST # 8075

Wreaths Across America- After many years of doing an outstanding job with Wreaths Across America, Pattie Ptak has decided to step down as the leader and is turning over the reins to Ride Captain Skip Petras. I would like to thank Pattie for all her hard work and also agreeing to help Skip out as they transition the responsibilities for this important event. Also a big thanks for Skip for volunteering to take over this role.

We are pleased to have been asked to participate in a Hero’s welcome home for SPC. Caleb Frappier who is returning from deployment in support of OEF.

Caleb is Army infantry, joined the Army in January of 2011 and left for his tour in April 2012. He is stationed at Joint Task Base Fort Lewis-McChord in Washington.

Caleb will arrive early in the morning and go right from the airport to untie his yellow ribbon at the Town Green.

 We will provide an escort (Full Flags only) from the airport and stand a Flag Line at the Town Green. Any member wishing to participate in the escort must contact State Captain Gregg Barratt:  greggbarratt@gmail.com.

 All non-escort members should go directly to the Town Green staging area.

Of note, there will be a celebration at the family’s house after and they have extended an invitation to PGR members. Members are requested to bring an appetizer if attending.

Gregg Barratt will be RCIC for the escort stage, RC/Flag Captain Don Camden will RCIC the Flag Line and flags will be on site.

Sadly we are called to stand for Doug Blowers who served our country honorably in theU.S. Marine Corpsin Vietnam,may he rest in peace.

Doug conducted search and rescue missions with the “Ugly Angels”, a Marine heavy helicopter squadron, during his service.

This Hero was the brother of Florida PGR member Mike Blowers and we are sorry for your loss Sir.

 We will provide an escort from the funeral home to the church (Full flags only), a Flag Line at the church and then at the cemetery for this Hero.

MISSION UPDATE: Due to impending weather, the date is now changed to March 10th

We are honored to have been invited by The Connecticut Rolling Flags, to participate in a special mission as we have the last three years, for the Cindy M. Beaudoin Memorial.

Spc. Beaudoin died Feb. 28, 1991, on the battlefield during Operation Desert Storm, was a member of CT Army National Guard’s 142nd Medical Co and was killed 8 hours after a cease fire was declared.

We will stand a Flag Line at the cemetery.

Sr. RC Kevin Wakely will be RCIC and flags on site. Of note, our own Sr. RC Bobby Easton will be at the helm of this event with The Connecticut Rolling Flags.
