Hello All…..   The time is upon us again to Say the Names of our Fallen Veterans and place a Wreath at their Final Resting Place.  Honor, Remember and Teach..

Wreaths will be delivered directly to the State Veterans Cemetery 317 Bow La in Middletown on Thursday and Friday 12/15 &12/16/2022.  The trucks are  scheduled to arrive around 10am. 2 truckloads will not be on pallets as in years past.
We are looking for assistance at the cemetery on Thursday morning at 10 am to assist in unloading the boxes.  These boxes will be distributed throughout the cemetery for placement on Saturday. Any assistance on Thursday and Friday would be appreciated.
On Saturday, The Middletown cemetery will be closed to vehicle traffic with parking on the CVH property across the street as well as the Eastern Drive Commuter lot with shuttle buses transporting to and from the cemetery starting at 9:30am. Signs will be posted to assist in parking.
The Ceremony will take place at 12 noon so please plan on arriving at the cemetery around 1030am.
We will Stand a Flag Line for the Ceremonies at both Middletown and Rocky Hill.
RC Jenn Hauser (203-627-7604) will be RCIC at CT State Veterans Cemetery 317 Bow Lane. Middletown.
RC Linda Liversidge-Daley (203-915-8259) will be RCIC at Col Raymond F. Gates Cemetery 392 West St in Rocky Hill.
Staging for both locations will be at 1030am
Any RC’s that have flags are requested to bring them to whichever event they attend.
Members are requested to choose whichever site they would want to attend.  More help will be needed at the Rocky Hill site.
Members are reminded that Personal Weapons are not permitted on State Property.

We are Honored to have been invited by Honor Flight CT to participate in the Escort and Ceremony for approximately 60 Veterans who are being taken to Washington DC to visit their respective monuments, many for their first time.
A flagged/PGR identified vehicle escort will start at Windsor Locks High School to bring the Veterans to the Airport for the Pre Departure  Ceremony. Stage time is 6:00am.
RC Kevin Rancourt (860-819-4199) will be RCIC for the Escort STAGE.
Morning  Airport Stage will include a Flag Line for the arriving Veterans as they prepare for departure. A Ceremony will be held at the SOUTHWEST AIRLINES baggage claim area lower level door #2. Stage time is 6:30am

Evening Airport Stage will include a Flag Line  for the return of the Veterans.  A flagged vehicle escort has been Requested from the Airport to the High School if available. Evening Stage is at 8:30pm at SOUTHWEST AIRLINES Arrivals.

Significant Duty included the 8th Army Air Corps 8th Bomber Command at RAF Daws Hill England as a Clerk with the crew responsible for keeping the Aircraft flying.
This is an Attend on Your Own Mission, so members are requested to bring their own flags.

Sadly we have been Requested to Stand in Honor for J. David Olsson  SCPO US Navy, EMS and Firefighter.

 

He joined the United States Navy prior to graduating from Cranston High School in 1959. He spent the beginning of his career as a proud submariner in the Navy. In 1967, he joined the Ledyard Fire Company, No.1. In July 1972, he was a charter member of the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad. And retired from the Navy  in 1978, as a senior chief from the Navy.

 

He was employed at Foxwoods in their EMS department (MPEMS) for many years. In his 50’s he proudly became a paramedic after many years of providing care as an EMT and an EMS instructor. After the dissolvement of MPEMS, he continued his career at American Ambulance in Norwich.  He provided 50 years of service and dedication in the emergency medical services. On May 18, 2015, he received a state citation and a Distinguished Achievement Award from the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health for his decades of service.

Of note, this Hero was a good friend of Lt. Col Joe Danao (RET) and currently Director of Projects and Operations at the CT VA.

 

We will Stand a Flag Line for Cemetery Services and Military Honors and this is the 2nd Mission of the day at the same location but different times.

 

SC Gregg Barratt will be RCIC and have flags on site.
